At Second Hand Vinyl Records we try to be as environmentally friendly as possible and understand the seriousness of climate change.
The reuse of second hand records rather than buying new records is a good starting point given vinyl records cannot be recycled.
We use exterior record packaging from two companies.
- Lil Packaging provides FSC certified packaging, click this link to read more.
- Priory Direct provides eco-friendly packaging, the record mailers we use score 5/5 for being climate neutral, recyclable, biogradble, sustainable materials and plastic free. Read more about Priory Directs commitments via this link.
We are still trying to source an eco-friendly sustainable source for paper inner sleeves and plastic outer sleeves. At the moment we cannot find any organisation in the market that produces these from a sustainable source. However, these two products are not single-use and are used to extend the life of all the vinyl records we sell, providing a lifetime of protection for any record. If you can provide either of these please get in contact, we would be keen to speak with you.
Our fragile tape used on the exterior of the packaging is from Eco-Craft. The tape is fully recyclable and made from renewable sources. You can read more about the fragile tape used on our packaging via this link.
We currently use Xerox Recycled paper for all order forms and gift messages. The below details how the paper is sourced and packaged.
This low whiteness paper is made from 100% Post Consumer Waste (PCW) and is ideal for everyday home or office printing. De-inked without bleaching
and free from optical brightening agents (OBA). Wrapped and packed in recycled material.
The majority of our records are shipped via Royal Mail who are committed to reducing their carbon footprint. You can read more about what Royal Mail are focused on achieving via this link.
While we try to do everything we can to minimise the impact the record store has on the environment we also recognise that some things cannot be entirely eradicated at this moment in time and we are currently offsetting 2 tCO2e each month via Carbon Footprint. You can read more about what Carbon Footprint do via this link.
The website is hosted by a company that is a leading cloud provider, they are energy efficient – 88% more than on-premises data centres. They are moving steadily toward achieving 100% renewable energy by 2025 to run the data centres.
Any records which are unplayable are sold for free for use in creative projects. If you would be interested in any of these records please get in contact, we only ask for postage costs to be covered.
